Presidential Elections 2023 – Repeat election: Proclamation of the newly elected President of the Republic of Cyprus by the Chief Returning Officer, Dr Costas Constantinou

Mr Christodoulides,

Before I read the Decree of your proclamation, as defined by the Law, as Chief Returning Officer and on behalf of all Returning Officers, as well as all the colleagues who worked for the organisation and conduct of the elections, I would like to warmly congratulate you on your election to the highest office, that of the President of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Elections (President and Vice President) of the Republic Laws 1959 to 2022 proclamation of President of the Republic:

Whereas, on Sunday, February 12, 2023, a poll was held to elect the President of the Republic, in accordance with the Writ of Presidential Election issued by the Minister of Interior, pursuant to Section 9 of the Election (President and Vice-President of the Republic) Laws; and

Whereas, following the aggregation and sorting of the results of the poll held on Sunday, February 12, 2023, for the election of the President of the Republic, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, who received more votes than fifty per cent of the total number of votes validly cast, has been declared as President-elect of the Republic, in accordance with Section 34(6) of the above Laws.
Therefore, I, Costas A. Constantinou, Chief Returning Officer, hereby notify that Mr Nikos Christodoulides, has been elected as President of the Republic and his name is published in the Official Gazette of the Republic, in accordance with Section 36(b) of the above Laws.
