of the first round of the Presidential elections
The sorting and counting of votes in all the polling stations in Cyprus and abroad has been completed in a smooth manner.
The official final results are as follows:
The final voter turnout is 404.321 out of 561.273 registered voters, namely 72,04%.
Abstention amounted to 27,96%, which corresponds to 156.952 voters, invalid ballots amounted to 5.333 or 1.32% and blanks to 1.671 or 0.41%.
Consequently, valid ballots amounted to 397.317 or 98.27%.
For comparison purposes, I would like to mention that in the first round of the 2018 Presidential elections, voter turnout was 71.88%, which indicates an increase of 0.16%.
Votes received according to the order of candidates’ appearance on the ballot:

Based on these results, a second round of elections will be held next Sunday, February 12, 2023, between Messrs. Andreas Mavroyiannis and Nikos Christodoulides.
I have already requested the Director of the Government Printing Office to start printing the ballot papers for the second round of elections.
I want to warmly thank the Assistant Chief Returning Officer, the Returning Officers, my colleagues at the Ministry of the Interior, the Officers of the Press and Information, the thousands of presiding officers and assistants in the 1,148 polling stations in Cyprus and abroad, as well as all civil servants and the members of the Police Force, who carried out their duties in an impeccable manner.
I expect the same high-quality work from everyone during next Sunday's second round of elections.
Finally, I would like to thank all the media representatives for their cooperation, as well as all the voters, for the high level of political civility exhibited today.
