European elections 2024 – Information service for registration on the special electoral roll of citizens residing in areas which are not under the effective control of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus

The Ministry of Interior announces the operation of the online information service for registration on the special electoral roll for the European elections 2024 of citizens residing in areas which are not under the effective control of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus at https://etv.elections.moi.gov.cy/.

In accordance with subparagraph (1A) of Article 9 of the Law on the Election of Members of the European Parliament of 2004, on the special electoral roll can be registered any citizen of the Republic who, according to the data contained in the civil registry system:
    1. resides in areas which are not under the effective control of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus;
    2. has already reached or by the date of the election of Members of the European Parliament will have reached the age of 18; and
    3. holds an identity card of the Republic of Cyprus, issued by the civil registry system.

The service, which was developed following a recommendation from the European Parliament Office in Cyprus, aims to inform citizens in a timely manner about the conditions for automatic registration on the special electoral roll, so that they can take the necessary steps to update their data on the civil registry system. The relevant applications must be submitted to the offices of the relevant District Officer no later than 2nd April 2024.

It is recalled that citizens residing in areas which are not under the effective control of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus vote at special polling stations operating for this purpose in areas adjacent to the Green Line. Unlike other voters, these voters are not allocated to specific polling stations and may vote at any special polling station. An electronic electoral roll is used at these stations in order to avoid double voting.
