Members of the European Parliament, for each European Union Member State, shall be elected by a proportional system. Elections shall be direct, by universal suffrage and shall be free and secret.

The voting procedure is carried out in every Member State in accordance with its national provisions.

The Republic of Cyprus shall elect six (6) representatives in the European Parliament. The entire territory of the Republic constitutes a single constituency.

The current electoral system resembles the simple proportional system, and each list occupies as many seats as its electoral power.

The allocation of the seats is carried out by the Chief Returning Officer and the Members of the European Parliament are elected for a five-year term of office.
