Election of Members of the School Boards
Distribution of the Members of the School Boards’ Seats

First distribution of seats

The total number of valid votes is divided by the number of seats and the quotient of that division, excluding the fraction, constitutes the electoral threshold by which the electoral power of each group is divided, i.e. the total number of valid votes received. Each group is entitled to as many seats as many times as the electoral threshold is included in its electoral power. An independent candidate who receives votes equal to or more than the electoral threshold shall occupy one seat as a Member. The seats assigned to groups of candidates shall be occupied by the candidates who in turn have obtained the highest number of preference crosses. In the event of a tie of two or more candidates from the same group, if the seats allocated to that group are less than the number of candidates who are tied, the Elections Officer shall conduct a draw in the presence of the candidates.

Second distribution of seats

If, after the first distribution of seats, seats remain unallocated, the Elections Officer shall allocate those seats among the candidates of the standalone parties or coalition of parties or a group of independent candidates, irrespective of whether they have been successful in obtaining any seat at the time of the first distribution, in the order of the number of unused balances. Τhat is to say, seats shall be allocated one by one to the group with the highest unused balances resulting from the first distribution until the unused seats are filled.

As in the case of the first distribution of seats, the seats allocated to groups are occupied by the candidates who have the most preference crosses, while in case of a tie of two or more candidates of the same group, if the seats allocated to the group are less than those of the tied candidates, the Elections Officer shall conduct a draw in the presence of the candidates.
